and boom we're live what's up bro hey baby what's up man we're on episode four of combustible brains damn dude episode four hell yeah man and you know i'd really like to thank all friends and listeners reaching out to us for the previous episode it felt really nice to hear that it helped you guys so that's awesome man oh man it was really cool like when people reach out and they listen to you and you know so we'd like we'd like to thank all our listeners even my mom called me actually which was kind of fun so that's so maybe she's listening to this now so i'm pretty sure she's listening could be let's hope so yeah so thanks to everybody for listening in and you know now you can find us on spotify google podcast itunes pocket cars everywhere we are everywhere youtube are we on youtube also i guess so yeah we can continue doing that also yeah okay for continuity let's put it on youtube also yeah why not cool so what are we doing today so today's episode it's properly gonna be different because you know we don't want to be a tech podcast so everything that pb and i want to talk about or like or i think it's cool is a fair game so today we're gonna tell you a story today's a story a futuristic dystopian twisted story but it's still a story so this story is kind of this is how it starts so it's uh what year is it actually don't know what year is it some sometime in the future um and then you know at this point in in this in this dystopian future let's say people don't have kids anymore it's kind of crazy uh kids are actually built on a manufacturing line people literally manufacture kids engineer kids engineer babies so you can have uh you know a very smart kid you can have a very dumb kid you can have you know whatever characteristics you want in a kid you can have them have with like blue eyes and blonde hair and brown you know like whatever so you it's like you can playing gtfi you get to create your character it's exactly like that designer babies so and then um so this is this is the setting of the world and our character bernard max is uh actually bernard max is not quite here yet he's he's in this world but he's not quite here yet so we're going through this world and we realize that like we what what we're looking at is a manufacturing plant like so we step into this world and we see that like there are clear classifications so we step like bottles basically. And bottles have all these like special chemicals and hormones and all these, like, it's a cocktail to make babies. Um, nobody has mothers anymore. So which is, which is kind of mothers, fathers considered disgusting. Yeah. Mothers and fathers are considered disgusting. Just think about that for a minute. It's kind of like families, disgusting mothers and fathers are disgusting. Um, so we step into this world and we see that like there are clear classes of people that have been introduced. So it's a very distinct world. We have alphas, right? We have betas, we have gammas, we have deltas and we have epsilons and everybody has a role in society. So it's kind of like you are born as an alpha and then you do alpha work. You do like, you can be born as a beta and then you do beta work and you, you can be an epsilon and you do epsilon work and everybody has a role in society and everybody's happy. And we are going to like dig into why or how. Uh, and if everything fails, there's something called Soma, which is kind of like alcohol and weed and all the psychedelics mixed together into like one little pill. You take it and all your sorrows, everything is totally wiped away completely. Yeah. For the moment, like it comes back, but then you take Soma when you take Soma, it's, it's great. Yeah. They take Soma again. So, um, as some of you might have guessed, this is the setting for brave new world, which is, uh, which was written in 1932. And, um, which brings us to our first character, Bernard. So Bernard is an alpha plus he's a top of the line, top of the food chain guy. Um, except that he's not jacked. Like every alpha plus is like super jacked and they have super shredded and they have like six pack abs. I'm just making that up, but like, why not? So, uh, you just have this, you have Bernard and Bernard's a little he's, he's not, he's not like every other alpha plus he's a little smaller, right? He's, he's a little shorter and he's a little shorter. So, uh, so, uh, so, uh, so, uh, so, uh, so, uh, so, uh, so, he's kind of an outsider. So he, you know, misfit into alpha plus he's a misfit into this world. And I think he's a psychologist if I remember correctly from the book. Um, so, and, but yeah, so Bernard, you know, he thinks for himself, he kind of has free will and so on. So Bernard's a very, he's a misfit like Rosset. So this, this brings me to, you know, like, um, to the point where if that is actually true in our world, maybe like, you know, maybe we, we don't have such classism quite yet, but you know, in, in a way, like, I, I think it's possible that, you know, we, we kind of have something like this in our world today, you know, like you can have super rich people and then the economically backward people, you know, somehow they're always left behind to do, you know, like work that is, you know, that is like labor intensive. So, uh, that, so, so we're, you know, this is a story of Bernard and Bernard is going through this world. So there's this girl, Lenina, Lenina. Lenina is also kind of a misfit. And then she actually is a, I think she's a Delta. I'm not quite, I don't remember exactly what she was, but she's not an alpha plus she's, uh, she's not one of, she's not the super high end. She's like a Delta or something. And then Lenina has dated this one guy for, for like a few months, which is super oddity in the world. In this world, you cannot actually, there is no marriage. There is no dating. There's nothing like that. You do whatever the hell you want to do. There is dating. Well, I don't know. Yeah. That dating, the concept of dating is totally different. Like everybody belongs to everyone in this world. So everybody can literally have sex with everybody in the world. And in fact, they expect people to do that. Like anything else is, um, that is the cultural norm as a cultural norm. And I'm assuming that they've engineered like birth control to be perfect. So I'm assuming that just is the case because they don't make babies anymore. Yeah. Because that will be pointless, right? If, if a baby actually, if a girl actually gets pregnant in this world, that kind of breaks the system that they've set up of artificial babies. Exactly. So back to Lenina. So Lenina is also kind of a misfit. She's dated, right? Remember like people don't date in this world, not in the traditional sense anyway. So Lenina is like a misfit and she's coming into this world, you know, um, like, like an outsider because she dated a guy for a few months and she has a thing for Bernard. So she, she likes Bernard and you know, she wants to get together with him. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. clothes they have sex and it's done like it's that that's it that's the definition of getting to getting together with bernard super quick super efficient but bernard is not like that bernard is like you know he's more somebody you would expect you know to be a little a little more maybe normal or something if that is even a possibility right so they are so lanina and this scarily i think uh coincides with the trend right over the years like in this this actual world also like yeah i mean if you take look at tinder for example right like it's like the the magnification of tinder to the max like from a casual hookup standpoint exactly i mean meaningful relationships and all is is taking a back seat over all of these things like everything has to be quick and fast and you know less emotional less baggage kind of yeah exactly that's that's maybe where the world is trending to like who knows i mean yeah so this book is as as we'll see as we go ahead this book is crazy when it comes to correlating to the real world right now it might sound a bit too over the top right now but trust me i mean there's a lot of parallels yeah yeah exactly so lanina wants to get together with bernard right and i think they make up this plan that they want to go to the reservation and it's a good time to introduce what this reservation is so this reservation has been they call them savages in this book so it's like a zoo zoo for cultured people the cultured people in this in this world are all the people that live in this dystopian world and the savages are people like you and me like me and everybody else in the world where you know where you have like normal people yeah people right now so where you have you know you have culture and you have tradition and you have rituals and you have you know relationships and you have people getting married and all this stuff so lanina and bernard they want to go visit um this savage reservation but they can't just do that like lanina on her own can't do that because she's a delta she's not entitled to stuff like that so only only bernard can get her to the reservation and she can't do there so bernard you know he goes to the director of the facility where he's working and then he has to get permission to go to the savage reservation and the director at this point he tells them you know like okay cool like you can go to the savage reservation but just remember you know like not everything is you know like happy and funny there like he he tells uh bernard of his own story where you know like he took some girl i think her name was linda to to the reservation many many years ago and then linda got lost and then he had to come back on his own and then he was he felt really bad and he was still you know struggling with it he has like dreams about it every now and then or at the nightmares about it every now and then so it's uh he he basically wants bernard like you know maybe you shouldn't go but you know if you want to go sure like go for it and that is unacceptable in the society like what the director feels and all is considered not efficient and not acceptable in the society so kind of just you know warns bernard that it shouldn't happen to him as well exactly that's his achilles heel like achilles heel that's his weakness basically so bernard you know listens to his story and he's like okay never mind i'm going to do it anyway so lenina and bernard then go to the savage reservation and the savage reservation you know um they land they there is also like some really interesting things that they introduced there like they um lenina at some point in in her life was at the north pole and she saw these auroras right these beautiful auroras and there was an aurora hotel and there were no games to play there like tennis or like anything and she really hates it like she hates the natural world she hates like you know anything that nature presents she hates she's really conditioned to like really live in this uh in this fake world almost right and i think that's uh that's kind of a parallel to our world also don't you think exactly i was going to say that's a good point i think that's a good point i think that's a good point i think that's a good point i think that's a good point i think that's a good point i think that's a good point anyone exactly i mean imagine like people going to the beach these days or you know like on the top of a mountain or you know like the first thing people do is like put it on instagram or like facebook or twitter or something like some some form of social media so like at that point are you even there like you know yeah and the sad one the sad part is you're not living in the moment and then later you go back into your instagram uh post and you go throwback thursday or tuesday or whatever that is like and you you point to how fun how much so-called like fun you know you had in that vacation and how much you miss it and you know how epic the pics were i mean that is the important thing like the pics yeah you yeah you're looking for like pictures as opposed to like the actual time that you had which is really sad but i also think it's quite true in our world so i think you know this is a parallel in our world that is yeah yeah we have a big so they go to the savage reservation so back to the savage reservation right so they're visiting the savage reservation and they take they take a look at all these savages right they look at like mothers and they look at this rituals going on and lenina is really disturbed like for example they have this one ritual where there is this guy he looks like an outsider in this world and he's hitting himself like hitting himself with like a whip of some sorts and this is kind of a ritual in their world where you know this is like a ritual where they're like oh i'm not a rite of passage almost where they prove that like you know how manly you are or some you know something like that and they she watches this and she just cannot take it she's like this is too much um you know like this is this is just not what uh she just cannot conceptualize all of these things so she goes back to the hotel room takes a lot of soma now remember soma knocks her like out completely so she's gone like the amount of soma she takes i forget how much but it she's gone for that probably overdosed on soma yeah yeah yeah exactly and this is also true to forget everything yeah i mean this is what people do every friday evening so drink away right yeah drink away yeah problems yeah so you yeah people do this today man like you know they they go to their desk job you know we all do and then we kind of hate it you're like you know at the end of the week you're like god this is you know like this is really is this really what i should be doing with my life and then every friday you're like oh shit this is great and because it's the weekend right and then you enjoy yeah and then you drink you drink your sorrows away and then you just want to forget and get back up on monday really i think that's that's soma that's soma that's soma man so she takes soma so bernard bernard's not a big fan of soma so he he doesn't do soma i don't think he totally is off it but he's not a fan for sure so this guy he's like you know he has to deal with the savage reservation still so at this point you know he he tries to like socialize with these savages and he comes across this guy called john right and john doesn't look like anybody else in that group john is a savage but he doesn't look like any of them you know and he asked john like you know what's your story and john tells him like you know well my mother linda and um you know i was born to linda and he he had seen linda go through some really like crazy times like linda you know i used to like play these weird songs to not play like sing weird songs to him and stuff which didn't make sense to him so this immediately comes to mind you know like bernard thinks immediately that the director had mentioned that you know he went to the savage reservation with linda and linda and so he thinks that you know oh shit that the director actually had a son right like through the normal means of you know like reproduction he had a son and he does not know that son right he does not know of john and then he meets linda and then linda and john and john and john and john and john and john and linda is like shocked to meet you know um bernard and she she's immediate she remembers her old life you know where uh everything was happy you know everybody's perfect to put to you know to paint the picture here linda here is old she's fat you know her teeth are yellow like you know she's uh she she's lived a pretty rough life at this point you know and then yeah she's like a normal human all other humans in this in this story in this book uh are flawless like they do get old but they look and feel like young people like at the prime basically i think always they figured out something right scientifically in the book like they figured out control like um yeah so they control their metabolism and their hormonal balance and all this stuff and they they make sure that you never look old right you never you never age basically not not in the traditional sense anyway so you die but like you know so that's like cosmetics you die young and plastic surgery that's like yeah but like it's not real they don't have to do surgery they just like figure it out so internally yeah exactly it's like instagram comes to life pretty much yeah where everybody's perfect so you know um so they meet so they meet john so bernard meets john and bernard meets linda and both of them um um um um um um um um um um um um so so so so so she she pretty much got lost right and as for john it must be like a new world to him so it's like curiosity like he has been in in his savage land for so long and i think he must be pretty psyched and i think the director has no freaking clue what's coming to him yeah the director has no idea man like he has a son and remember like when he realizes that he's he's going to have a son this is going to be like it's a big deal it's a big it's a big deal in a bad way so just to recap the story so far right like or rather like you know our thoughts on it you know the few things that i see here it's like the first thing i saw was like conditioning you know and i think conditioning is a big one in our world also like don't you think like the moment we are born totally you know somebody starts teaching you stuff right yeah for better or worse right i don't know for yeah i mean it just it just begins you know it's just like you go to school and then you're taught the same things you're taught the same set of morals and you know you're bottom you know you know you're brought up in in a systematic fashion and like the very peak of this is of course like their world where everybody's perfect we're not manufactured perfect yeah so even in our world it's like people are trained to be good workers like people are trained to be obedient like i mean it is um frowned upon if you don't follow you know the set things that are being taught in school for example or in your job or you know places like that so and even the concept of right and wrong right like if you make money you must be doing better like yeah it has practical applications in our world you know like you make enough money yeah your life is better and that it is it is better like once you make money it's actually better but it it's the same thing man like it's um you know you have essentially maybe like five options you know like at the end of your like teens you have maybe you're left with you know three or four realistic options of on where you can take your life yeah like you can become you know for example you can become a doctor or a lawyer or you can become an engineer or you know you can become you know a firefighter or like but you know there is only so many things you can do in this world it's not like you have total free will so you're still conditioned so that and the thing is um you're encouraged to have higher education right and uh i've read of an epic book actually we'll talk about it someday on the podcast but the thing is the more education you have the the narrower your mindset becomes like the narrow like specialization is considered 100 epic in this world it is respected it is loved yeah but all the epic people in the history that we have seen are not necessarily specialized specialists they they have dabbed into every field and that's what makes them awesome in their field in which they became famous in so this is also kind of parallel to that right to an extreme degree in the book to a totally extreme degree and you know this is actually quite all these points where like you know especially the one where like lenina she's like you know she uh she hates the aurora like the like come on like this is one of the most beautiful things you can see on earth right like it's i love the way he puts it to the extremes right yeah i mean he just takes any concept and takes it to the extreme like how it would be if we continue on this path that we are on today yeah exactly so she really hates it so i and i thought that's already happening man like some like think of all the people that go on vacation how many of them truly want to do it and how many are doing it out of just a social conditioning that you know like vacations are good for you this is what you should do and then people go on vacation which is kind of like crazy to think about but i think some of that is actually true yeah it's like those two packages man that we always talk about like they show you thousand things in like five days or ten days or something and yeah boom and then you're back it's okay you get to see thousand like landmarks maybe but did you actually live in that vacation did you actually experience it to that degree that you could have right and this is kind of like that no man it's it's really true the other thing i thought about was like classes you know and in their world they have like alphas and betas gammas epsilons and you know for example like epsilons in this world cannot do alpha work and deltas cannot do epsilon work everybody has to do their job assigned to them and you know there was a really awesome quote in the book actually that said you know how the backbone of society is not philosophers or you know like intellectuals it is basically you know stamp collectors and like factory workers basically i think the quote goes something like um anyway i don't want to like quote quote it like exactly i don't have it but the backbone of society is you know not philosophers you know it is all the people in the factories that like keep producing stuff yeah who actually put in the work in in reality like who put in the work yeah but it's just labor like it's it's just raw labor for meaningless reason so because they're consumers so so the so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so strange parallel to our world which you know which might be true anyway so we go back to the story so now you know uh linda and john they're being they're being brought back to the civilized world and you know the director does not know of it so bernard comes back and then you know um he introduces there is it's kind of dramatic but like john is introduced to the director and the director just cannot take you know the shock uh that he goes through when he looks at john and he's like you know he's my son and he's like oh god i'm a father now and being a father is horrible like it is one of the worst he's ashamed and then he quits i think he quits or like he's fired or whatever like he cannot take it anymore and he he resigns essentially at this point and you know this is such a such a crazy thing right like think about like in our world like if somebody says like you know um you're you're my father like somebody it won't you wouldn't be disgusted but looks like the looks like you know in in the future that might be possible like if you're manufacturing babies it might be possible and actually it is happening like china for example has almost unrestricted access to you know epigenetics research um you know as far as i know and they can like essentially start engineering babies so it's not that far man like if anyone will do something unethical first in this world i guess now from now on it will be more china doing it than anyone else because others at least have more conscience like yeah they have some ethics at least others whereas china is like screw that to be if it's more efficient i mean to be fair like one one thing i want to clearly distinguish here it's not the chinese people that don't have ethics but the chinese government government yes it's yeah it's the government that's pushing the let's say their own agenda forward even at the expense of their own citizens right which is the really sad part because every chinese human is like every like anybody else and the world that we have discussed so far i mean the closest uh thing to being controlled or living in a controlled environment i think would be in china itself right now right i mean who knows if it's china or the us but like because this world is so different but like in this world they still want you to have the illusion of free will so it's kind of more like a western civilization in my opinion where you know where you have let's say you live in the us right but you let's say you are you know a factory well there's no more factories here sad enough but like you know let's say you're just contributing to the economy you're running the rails of society so you think that you have you have free will but then you're controlled by things like credit scores and you know like bank accounts and then you know your debt and your education loans and so it's already being controlled they're still controlled everybody's controlled so like the free people of the world i mean it's pretty hard control like if you miss you know paying you know like a bill you're going to be screwed just that people won't have a gun at your head yeah exactly yeah you won't die but you will still very slowly suffer in your life which is maybe worse honestly so it's still it's a very western concept in my opinion where like you know the control is like very it's very subtle but it works like if you start like guys just start list this listing out the things in your in the life that control you you probably have a car you probably have a house you know you probably have a family like you know there is a there's hundreds of things that actually control you beyond your own measure you have education loans right you have debt you have credit cards you have credit scores like you're an employer to please like there is an endless you know an endless framework to just like control you in place and the crazy thing is it's like by definition democracy was just not like that by the very definition of it well over the years capitalism and all of that it it just you know went on taking it towards that direction yeah so it's not like um yeah i mean we are not socialists but i mean who knows right like this topic is so complicated like nobody has right answers but it seems that free will is being taken away from the people like you know it is uh that's not that's not a good thing to have so and the worst thing is the illusion is still there that's the worst thing yeah like back in the day like if you are under a dictatorship for example again not at all claiming that that is better in any way possible but if you are under dictatorship at least you knew you had no no free will like versus here it's like you think that you have free will you think that you you know everything is in your control and dude look i think if you make decisions to a certain degree in your life and educate yourself as in not degree wise but in a reality you can still have more free will than most people will right but like going to higher education taking loans this that like especially what people especially america i would say is you know like free will what you are saying is significantly lesser in that regard exactly free will is taken away from you so it's kind of like you know just don't have it or you have it but you know it's an illusion so you don't have it yeah you have it but not really so you know there is that so i felt this was like a very interesting parallel so so anyway so they back to this world so in this world you know like the director has now quit and now bernard max um you know bernard max is famous because he's the guy that bought the savage you know he bought the savage back and he bought linda back and by the way linda um she becomes very quickly irrelevant in this world she just wants to become you know she wants to be put under soma all the time and the doctors have given her like two months before she dies so she just cannot take you know she hates her life at this point enough that she just wants to forget about it all of it so she's ready to die so that's you know kind of sad but like that's what yeah yeah so she's she's gone she's she's going to check out and then uh john um i have a tendency to call john james i don't know why but so if i ever call john james you know it's john that's john yeah so i don't know why i do that but anyway so maybe it's conditioning man so so who knows so john really finds this world strange like he's heard of this world from his mother right which is again to repeat really offensive in this world mother father that's not good really screwed up concepts in this world so you know he knows of this world from his mother and everybody wants to look at this savage because this savage is special right because he was born to two cultured people in this cultured in this world people and then he went and lived in the savage reservation and then came back so he's like nobody else he's not a savage he wasn't born a savage but you know he was born the way savages are born but to two cultured people so he's he's like a true savage he's like that aquaman guy he's like aquaman yeah speaking of people and sea people man what's the what's the name of that actor aquaman god i forgot Jason Momo or something Jason Momo yeah and that guy used to live next to me by the way like in Pittsburgh he was actually shooting for whatever I don't know what they were shooting here but he used to live here and he used to always walk around with like three bodyguards which was really funny so although you think that he needs them yeah I think the bodyguards are more for like not like pestering him as opposed to like actually saving his body although I don't know if he can fight maybe maybe he does I don't know but anyway he's just buff totally off topic bro yeah but you know it's our podcast who cares who cares anyway so Aquaman maybe that's a story for another time anyway where was I I forget okay we are back to this father yeah no no I remember now so so fathers and fathers and mothers was a really nasty concept in this world so James James really like is trying to you know understand this world so he's heard a bit from his mother and like you know he's he looks around and he really hates it because he can see through all the bullshit right he can see the epsilon person going to their monorail station every day at the end of the day they get their soma right and then they go home and they sleep and they come back and you know so he has this conflict of like you know yeah like if this were truly the culture world like he has a crisis moment right like what what has happened here so just imagine let's say let's do a thought experiment right like imagine he's like unplugged he's on the matrix yeah exactly so if you're to if you're to be a time traveler like what do you think right if somebody were to be like you know transported from like 1800s America 1800s America to like today where everybody's like looking into their phones like what do you think that would look like so I don't know where I saw this recently there was that a back to the future related joke on some Jimmy Kimmel or something like that and Marty and that other guy they they come come into 2015 okay and they they see the phone okay and they're like dude this is a supercomputer you guys must be like crazy right this world must be crazy everyone has so much power in their hand they could you know launch rockets and all and and then Jimmy is like no we we just take selfies using that and post it online that's it that's so so disappointed I mean just think about it for the people who got a man on moon uh the first people who got man on moon uh they if you tell them right now that every person has that power in every like in our hands and yet we use it for such like pathetic tasks day in day out I mean they'll really be disappointed with us really be disappointed I recently watched a movie uh it's called devil's advocate it's a very famous movie I'd never watched it but in that movie the devil says you know vanity is my favorite sin and that's exactly what it is everybody's vein everybody wants to like look at themselves so look at themselves become famous and get approval and all this stuff so you know this is this is what James is going through in this world so James not James see I caught myself John John John so it's what John is saying in you know feeling in this world so one day like you know there is this big event and this is a turning point for Bernard so but this is this is going to be the highlight of his career like everybody you know like that that's like super famous and super powerful are going to show up to this party he's a celeb and like James is his like pony right like that's his trick so that's his pony trick so he's like going to introduce James and he's going to be happy and he's you know he's going to be super famous and all this like everybody wants to sleep with Bernard now it's kind of crazy so at this point you know James is locked in his room and he refuses to come out like at the very highlight of his career James says like you know fuck you like you know I'm like you know screw your world because he's he's had this crisis moment he's like screw it you know like I'm not going to come out and you know like put myself on show here so Bernard is of course extremely pissed at this at this thing and everybody's like you know now they start hating Bernard and now there's like back bitching right like where people go like you know you know what like Bernard he's he's not really as good as they say you know and they say like oh yeah there must be some alcohol in his bottle you know that's why he's that's why he's so tiny like you know there's all these comments that start because you know Bernard can't perform which which is a very bad thing which is what exactly happens in you know any society so you know he's like oh shit we're fucked and like you know he he tries to talk to James and then James essentially not James John essentially tells him to save you know like tells him to fuck off basically and then John is like you know this is this is not done and he explains he explains some things there and he you know and it doesn't make it makes a little bit of sense to Bernard but not really like they're totally different people yeah and at this point Bernard isn't totally unplugged but Bernard isn't totally unplugged and okay so there's another like so I had to tell you like one more thing I don't know why but Lenina now is a thing for thing for John because she had a thing for Bernard but then she meets a bigger savage so now she I don't know she has a thing for for John and John also had a thing for her but the moment she was like you know let's have sex like the moment they met and then you know he John John was shocked and you know he was like oh this doesn't happen in my world and he you know calls her like you know like a prostitute like a whore and she's like oh fuck this is too bad and they leave so there's that event so he's probably scarred from that event as well you know like he has burden so he's like you know he he's dealing with that he's dealing with the the world's you know like fucked up situation so he you know there's there's all these things going on so which is you know like really disturbing to anybody so at this point you know they they're they're outsiders both of them John and James James John and Bernard and you know they have another friend who is also an outsider I think his name is Hemholtz right Hemholtz yeah Hemholtz Hemholtz Watson I think his name they're all outsiders in this world so John has a crisis movement so what he does is he he's you know he essentially there's there's an event right what happens is Lindstrom is dying and Linda's at her you know she's essentially at her deathbed and then there's all these kids that come into our hospital they call it the death hospital and everybody's happy by the way in the death hospital everybody's happy because they've conditioned all the kids to be happy about death so that way nobody fears death so it's called death conditioning so what happens is Jane so John is sad about Linda dying you know as you would expect people to be like his mother is dying right right exactly so he so exactly so she he's sitting at her bedside and all these like clones they call them clones because they are really clones that's the one thing other thing that we didn't mention like from one sperm and like one set of sperm and one set of like one egg they make 96 babies in this world not one but 96 they found out a way to multiply they did it man so so they have 90 so all these clones come in and for before their death conditioning class you know to look at like how people are dying happily like happily you know like I was doing air quotes with my mom and my hands right now so people are dying happily here except this one outlier where John and his mother they're like dying unhappily as a as that's that's usually how thing is right except Linda's not Linda doesn't she's checked out like Linda is so lost in her solar world she's gone and then eventually you know she dies like you know she she passes away and then the kid asks John you know like is she dead and he's still laughing and you know this really is a turning point for for John he's like you know this is my mother just died and this is like really offensive and then the nurse goes like you know I'm going to call the cops if you're sad like something like that and she calls the cops because like you know he like think about this John is making the kids sad which is not what conditioning is supposed to be in their world so this is this is essentially legal this is not good behavior yeah this is not good so this they're supposed to be happy in death so you know this is something that you know they're supposed to be happy in death so this is something that you know they're supposed to be happy in death but then you know John is like I don't know what to do with this but I'm going to call the cops and then you know there's there's some more details there but like John essentially starts running out and he I forget exactly how they land up here but yeah I think this is the part where they actually throw all those somas down right yeah so the point of that yeah exactly so what happens is like he he's essentially going you know he's going to tell all the people he feels like he's going to tell all the people that you know that you're going to kill and these are all Epsilon these are Epsilon workers yeah right so in the name of Liberty right so he goes like you know this is this is Liberty and you know what happens is at the end of the day like every person in this world especially the Epsilons they get their like you know they have rationed out their soma like you know you get only like three pills a day or something like that so he goes to like he goes to a place where they have all these pills you know all these works in there at the end of day and then throws them in the river all of them so all the soma pills are thrown out and then they get thrown out and then they're thrown out and they're thrown away and then he shouts you know like you know this is for Liberty like you know this is such a crazy concept in their world like Liberty and the people have absolutely no clue because the Epsilons they're born dumb what is Liberty yeah yeah like they're born dumb they don't know like you know as babies they're like this was this is another thing that we should have mentioned oh we missed that yeah yeah yeah exactly so like babies in this world Epsilon babies in this world they're taught to like hate books and hate nature and like hate everything that's nice but they don't know what's good by actually giving them electric shocks as babies so they'll give them like you know nice a nice flower and then they'll electrically shock them to like make them hate yeah the ones they try to reach the book or the flower or something they give them shock just to condition them exactly so this was even the concept that's so crazy I was you know I was thinking about that man like that is such a fucked-up concept like you just think about it like you know such an extreme way to go about it that's such an extreme way we don't have that yet at least I don't think so but like imagine like I hope we don't I mean who knows like maybe our condition so perfect that you know we just don't see it but you don't even know we don't even know that's what conditioning is right like if it is perfect then you don't see it so yeah so John is throwing all away all the soma and think about it soma is like their fallback plan it's the safety valve in this in this in this world so yeah exactly when all hell breaks loose you just take something and you know you're gonna have to do it again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again so when all hell breaks loose you just take soma and you know forget it it doesn't matter exactly and then Bernard and the I think the police are called something else in this world but yeah they essentially get arrested and brought to the director's office and book turns you know like super philosophical but uh before we go that before we go there you know like uh any any thoughts on on what happens to john and like linda and all these things yeah so obviously i i know what happens so well but i don't want to spoil that no no no what i mean by that is like do you like did anything like you know stand out for you in in this like whole situation where you know like they're dying and do you do you ever see our world going there yeah so thankfully uh when it comes to death i would say uh at least from what i've seen people are still pretty sensitive like death is something people actually get really affected by is what i've seen so thankfully we have not reached that point where you know even death is like yeah okay whatever it doesn't matter no i think that is some point where people actually realize how much they haven't been living in the moment like if some close person dies then people all of a sudden get that feeling that dude i mean this can happen to us anytime and we should start living in the present but unfortunately i have seen that also that it stays only for a few days and then you're back pulled into social media instagram and all of this stuff you know and it doesn't stay until some next uh huge calamity happens so even though it's not exactly parallel but again like this book is always extreme right it is not something that is exactly there right now but it is if we keep walking this path we'll reach that right so and i think i think that's where it will reach eventually like people will be like okay dead okay no issues the other thing that um stood out to me in this like part of the book was like pleasing other people like remember how bernard is you know he brings james and then he becomes the guy that's famous i think that happens in our world too like somebody comes up with this miracle you know and so there is this high growth that people get and then there's the high crash so it's like you know he was famous at some point you know like every girl wanted to get with him and like every director wanted to hire him like you know like he's super famous in this world and then there's a big crash so it's like everybody has like you know everybody has these moments and he got and he got famous quickly right he got famous because of john he got famous quickly and i think that also happens in this world like the quicker you get famous the faster you get famous the faster you tend to fall yeah i mean it's going to be especially since you don't know how to handle it right you don't know that's i think more yeah more of an issue yeah exactly so these overnight you know celebrities like that become super famous you know they they're going to have that crash man and you have you see this you know like people that become super famous they just crash in the end like you know just turn it you know ends horribly always so i thought that was pretty interesting pretty interesting insight from this guy so um back to the story and i'm actually going to and we have not even gone to the proper philosophical part of this this book i mean the next few quotes are like damn man yeah no this is so this is the this is the part so what happens now is like john bernard and their friend they're all in the director's office and the director is woke right so do you he's he's truly woke he has you know he's read art you know he's read not read art but he understands art he's read books from the future like from the past before ford so oh yeah that's another thing like ford is god in their world so whenever like modern the model t was built you know everything is like your fordiness like you know everything is after ford before ford so they have af yeah so the timeline is af after exactly so after four timelines and this is what set in what 500 af right or like 800 or something like that yeah so they have this so it's actually a lot of time to do this yeah so it's a lot of time to do this in future it's so it's it's way uh beyond even 2020 so oh yeah dude potentially this might actually happen it's what yeah 20 25 50 or something like that like no this is definitely hope it doesn't i mean yeah so this there's this the uh you know they're having this conversation actually this this guy mustafa mond uh he's actually like he's the boss like he's one of the world controllers like they have 11 or 10 world controllers and he's one of the world controllers and uh you know he's a very sane guy like he's a very intelligent you know like well spoken well read and he understands you know he's completely woke he understands the past the future you know yeah how society is being controlled they designed this right so they designed this intentionally and then there's this awesome word woke yeah though the word woke is not like it is used for wrong purposes these days like yeah so i would rather call him like a so so basically he's someone who's not even a person who's not even a person who's not even a person evil or he's not like he's he's pretty uh rounded of a person like he he's a world controller red and well rounded yeah and not in like a tyrant way like he's yeah in a in a kind of twisted sensible way so he uh in a twisted that's how i call it the twisted sensible way and then the world is twisted so yeah so he's sensible in that world in in some twisted way so he goes you know like he's explaining to them like how the world is and he's like oh my god i'm not even a person stable and this is a quote so he i'm just going to read it it's really it's a really awesome quote so it says you know the world's stable now people are happy they get what they want and they never want what they can't get that actually really stood to me it was like holy shit just think of that holy shit man they never want what they can't get well you want a ferrari well you'll never want it so it's like yeah like holy shit you're conditioned to such perfection you're conditioned you don't even want a ferrari if you can't get a ferrari you wouldn't even want it yeah you have so well conditioned crazy so like the epsilon worker who's working in the factory never wants a vacation he never wants to go to like you know the alps he doesn't want to do that he hates the alps because he was like electrically shocked as a kid anyway so back to this quote he says they're well off right they're safe they're never ill which is true because they've like gotten rid of everything then they're not afraid of death death conditioning they're blissfully ignorant of passion and old age no such concept passion there's everybody belongs to everybody old age they're plagued with no mothers or fathers conditioned to be disgusting in this world they've got no wives and also that you don't have to take care of them or something like that so no attachments nothing like that also no emotional attachments they've got no wives no children or lovers to feel strongly about that sucks man they're so conditioned that they're practically they practically can't be can't help behaving as they ought to behave and this is so this really stirred to me this this last one they've got no wives no children or no lovers to feel strongly conditioned that they practically practically can't help behaving as they ought to ought to behave so they're literally like you know minions man and just think about just think about the guy in that world man it's so crazy right like just like you know when you like this is so fucked up like just imagine like one of those things right like when you meet a girl that you know like you really you know have really good chemistry with you know like your whole everything is great you know what i mean like you feel fucking amazing right it feels amazing like you know like even like whatever the not just sex but like everything's amazing right it just feels amazing right they they don't have that feeling it's it's kind of crazy exactly and and if you come to think of it like from the history also like all the big things over the you know like throughout the history all the major things like you know for example men have done for so it is so many times it has been over a woman like over one woman you know like like something or the other like for the attachment or you know fighting for her or you know like loving her or whatever like that so it's so crazy right like yeah i mean it's usually like this quote right oh yeah i mean most of the things you don't feel strongly about yeah so what are you gonna fight for right they won't right so that is why this society is controlled right and at the last part it says like and if anything should go wrong there is soma which you go and chuck out of the window in the name of liberty mr savage liberty so he so that that's really like you know like this is a safety wall safety like they have created a perfect world there is no fighting like no passion nothing right like nothing nobody cares about anything anymore or rather like they just don't know like what what this means anymore no they don't have anything to care for exactly and then the safety wall soma they just throw that soma away like and he's in the name of what liberty like he's like what liberty so this is what liberty yeah it's crazy code so this is okay such a yeah and this is you know and he says the world is stable now which is might be true like in in our world if it might be it might be true that this is a solution that humans in the future create you know where everybody's so perfectly conditioned that they're like happy you know like an epsilon in this world is happy he's not an unhappy epsilon so you know he's happy doing epsilon work so kind of exactly there's another uh so they're having a conversation right so john asks you know like uh the controller like you know if you're so mighty and powerful and you can engineer the perfect babies why not create like you know alphas every like why isn't every human an alpha plus every man every woman is why aren't there alpha pluses and then the guy goes like this is quote imagine a factory staffed by alphas that is to say by separate and unrelated individuals of good hereditary and conditioned to be as capable bracket brackets within limits of making a free choice and assuming responsibilities imagine it he goes and this is sarcastic like just think about how satirical this is this is written like you cannot have people capable of free will like the controller goes and you don't want you don't want this situation where people can think about this and you know this is this you know i thought of this and it was like okay this makes sense like think like everybody's elon musk right like imagine that's just not gonna work right yeah like imagine a factory yeah it's not going to work like imagine a factory you know packed with elon musk's it's just not going to happen and i mean you know like they would leave yeah right so who's going to build who's going to build all these things i'm not saying this is right or wrong but i'm not saying but just a thought experiment right like if everybody's elon musk does the world work and i don't think it does you know it's it's in a fucked up way it just does not work so it's if everybody's just think about that like everybody's elon musk even like factory workers in elon musk's factory on earth yeah no they just want to go to space yeah exactly so in the fucked up way this book makes some point here or this author makes some point yeah the hierarchy thing that they mentioned even though it is not uh like hammered to you at birth it is still so true man i mean everyone we need people to do all types of jobs right else else have to wait till robots take over yeah dude no really but you see like the subtle point here is that they don't have a hierarchy per se everybody's happy so it's like you know everybody is equally important in this world in their own right in their own right and that's that's the one there is another quote here like that i would like to read it to you guys so it's like where you know and this is um you know they're having quite quite a lot of conversation here and we'll get into like you know the story at this point is you know uh very philosophical so he's you know john says like you know isn't that like degrading a person like making them an epsilon and this guy goes degrade him from what position right as a happy hard-working good goods consuming citizen he's perfect of course if you choose some other standard than ours then perhaps you might be able to get a better position in life and you know you can't play electromagnetic golf according to the rules of centrifugal bumble puppy so he's basically saying you know like who are you to decide that you know uh like what is degradation to an epsilon he's not not even degraded and this stuck to me man like i was so disturbed reading this i was like holy shit this is actually true like if somebody creates a world like this it's maybe true that this is exactly what happens don't you think seriously man i mean and he has a point right because the epsilon for the epsilon hits totally normal so it is it's not at all a degrade at all it's just any other day and that's so crazy and yeah so from outside you know that it's degraded or not right yeah yeah exactly so you have to be an outsider to actually see so like you know i would like to explore that further you know and i would like to explore that further you know and i would like to explore that further but it just stuck stuck out to me so much so you know at this point you know the story is like it's on it's it's in its final you know paces where what happens is like um john and you know john and bernard and their friend they have a choice to make so they're going to be sent away to an island which is iceland i believe and this island is you know all the free thinkers of this world are sent to this island so that they you know they can do their free thinking there and then you know or whatever this island is and they can be happy there you know those are less people remaining so they can fit on one island yeah no exactly so bernard and hem holds or you know i think they make that choice to go to that island however john he wants to face all the suffering right like he wants to go through the suffering of you know um of you know having diseases and having you know issues and stuff like that so this this guy he makes the choice to you know stay back and you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know have his own little house or whatever and then you know stay in this world and um you know this is this is a difficult choice for this is a difficult choice for you know the uh the controller because he doesn't really understand like why would he want diseases and all that yeah exactly and i think he wants to feel something you know like this guy like the john just wants to feel something good you know like where you know he will suffer and like he'll have some life and you know john's on on a downward spiral now we can see at this point you know he he goes some something like you know i don't want comfort i want god i want poetry i want real danger i want freedom i want goodness i want sin so he he wants to experience life you know all of it so this guy you know he's um he wants to live you know he won't like a cast away and that's exactly what he does the director you know blesses him saying like okay cool you know you want to have if you're giving up your right to you know rather do you want the right to become old and important and you know you're not going to be able to live like a normal person you know and he goes like you know do you want cancer and do you want like hunger and like all these things you will have all these things and he's like uh yes i want them all and then he's like okay you're welcome and then he sends him off so it's kind of crazy and then he just uh you know he he lives on in in the little house and then every day he starts beating himself i think this this is like them you know like alluding to the fact that he wanted to prove that he's like a man in you know in the savage reservation he's beating himself every day and he's like i'm not going to every day and then back to his yeah basics yeah and then people yeah exactly and then people come to watch him like like he's a wild animal and the end it's kind of a sad sad story for john because one day somebody shows up and then john has killed himself he hangs himself so you know um it really goes to speak that like an outsider you know uh yeah just cannot fit in right yeah just does not or he wasn't able to fit in and you know this is uh this is something man like you know if you're just something think about like if you're an outsider in a perfectly conditioned world you know like you're going to pick unhappiness like that's you know it's just it's going to happen like if you're not perfectly conditioned like you're going to be unhappy like it's um you're also going to be happy you know you're also going to like experience life more but you're going to be unhappy you're going to be you're going to face depression you you'll have you know um you know everything that life throws at you so kind of a crazy end yeah so it's it's like a choice basically right so would you want to be happy or would you want to be free right to to do your own things to have your own decisions to have the life to have control exactly over your life basically or would you just like to be happy so if you have control over your life it won't necessarily be happy in fact yeah more often than not it won't be happy but and you'll have control over your life right whereas if you're conditioned and happy that's a different that's a different choice totally different choice so if you if you decide to do something different so the point i guess we're trying to make here is like if you decide to do something different if you quit your nine to five job you know if you if you hate your desk job and if you don't show up there anymore and if you start doing your own thing life's going to be pretty interesting but also sometimes sad and you know it might not end well like it might end like john like you know you never know of course like it it might end like john like you know you never know of course like it might end like you know you never know of course like it might end like john like you know you never know of in a totally opposite direction as well i mean this is the end of our story but like there is one tweet that i read recently it said like everything is hard in the beginning and when they say the beginning they mean the first few years so it is like you know this is uh so yeah that's exactly where it is you know like stuff is difficult to do exactly so you know but i i honestly believe like at least my life philosophy is like doing hard things so like i really love doing hard things that you know i like to challenge myself exactly not get complacent yeah i mean this is in this is my free choice right like this is what i like to do take the hard road like i enjoy it i mean you and me we have like mutual friends you know like we grew up with on stuff like that who are like really happy you know like in their life now it's like you know they don't they don't challenge themselves necessarily speaking so they're like screw it you know like you know a certain life but they're happy you know it's like i will at least hope more power to them right yeah more power like if that works for you like great but like just imagine like you know like you know like you know like you know like you know like you know um if this happens to everybody then like i don't i mean it's so hard i don't think humans were designed for this it's not for me i honestly think like you know humans were designed to do hard things but you know it's it's an individual like opinion it's not i don't know i don't know if that's a fact right so uh yeah that's just that's just something to think about i guess like you know after listening to this podcast like maybe exactly you know what yeah so we wanted to just get this this crazy book out there you know you guys can go ahead and read it if you want or you know think about the concepts that we were talking about it it's it might sound crazy or like that we are talking about some random stuff that is not relating to us but it is i mean and we are also also spoken about it in this podcast right like how related it is exactly and i highly recommend reading the whole thing you you're just going to enjoy it like even though you might you know like you know the it doesn't matter it's more like yeah i mean listening and maybe you should have started with no like the spoilers but you know the thing is like the moment you read the moment you read that book and another book i would recommend is 1984 many people of course have read both these books but like you know 1984 another amazing book that people should read and you know i see i see the east as in like the chinese um you know controlled world going more 1984 and then the american controlled world going bravely new world but we'll see i mean i might not be long i might not be alive then to see see this happen but i can see it now like you know it's happening already so kind of interesting i hope i won't be alive till then yeah i don't live like for seven not a world i'd like to see man not a world and and i mean just being aware of this and actually like taking you know at least little steps towards not letting it happen that way at a personal level is also something and you know so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so
